The impact of gendered misinformation and disinformation is widely acknowledged, but there is little research on how populist narratives are weaponised against feminist movements. This study is a baseline attempt to examine how such narratives in Pakistan are used to discredit women’s rights movements and to build a counter-narrative against them.
It examines common themes across three popular YouTube channels, analysing misleading headlines, fabricated content and disinformation around the Aurat March.
