This study assesses content regulation on social media in relation to young people’s mental health, examines how the practices of tech corporations shape individual experiences, and explores how society’s failure to acknowledge mental health affects the government’s framework for regulating online content.

Selected findings from the survey:

  • The average daily screen time of respondents was an estimated 7 hours, with 5.2 hours on social media.
  • 70% of respondents said specific online content had left them triggered, disturbed or distressed, most of it on Instagram and YouTube.
  • More than 80% reported the content to the platform, but only 37% confirmed it was removed.
